New certfication: VCP5

July 12th saw the launch of vSphere 5, the next generation virtualisation/cloud infrastructure suite from VMware. VCP is widely accepted as being the "industry standard" certification in virtualisation, and VCP5 has also been launched today!

The VMware Certification portal has already been updated with the VCP5 exam blueprint and even a VCP5 mock exam, and there is a substantial amount of information about the training requirements on the VCP5 homepage.

The final exam will be available to take after August 29th 2011, but there will also be the usual beta exam process which begins imminently - check your inbox to see if your invitation has arrived yet!

  1. Watching my inbox like a hawk... Who gets to try the beta exams? Finally passed my VCP410 in May (thanks to your excellent tuition). vSphere 5 and the accompanying product suite and vision are REALLY exciting!

  2. @Steve, the beta exams are invitation-only, and the criteria will be a minimum of VCP4 and a participant in the vSphere 5 beta. Scott.

  3. What can I do now in order to prepare myself for VCP5? Without the software and documentations it gets a bit hard to learn about new features.

  4. @Anonymous (14th July, 8.53) The final VCP exam won't be available until the end of August, the vSphere 5 documentation will become available at the same time as the software is there to be downloaded, I'd expect that to be in the next 2-4 weeks. Scott.

  8. With the upcoming release of vSphere 5.1, how will the VCP exam be affected. It sounds like vSphere 4.1 made a change to the VCP when it came out. I am in the middle of studying for the VCP5 and don't want to be thrown a curve when I'm about to take the exam in the next month or 2.

    1. Hi Geoff, VCP exams are normally generic across minor versions so you shouldn't need to worry. The items in the exam will be updated or removed as necessary to mean that the items you see in the exam work for 5.0 or 5.1. If the exam is going to be made 5.1-specific, VMware will update the exam blueprint on their site. Scott.
